When empowerment begins at the doorstep
Jangamwadi in Mhasla, Raigad looks like most hamlets in the district - with small houses dotting narrow lanes with adjoining orchards. The entrance to these homes however, don't resemble most others in the district. Or the state. Or the country.
Each name plate in Jangamwadi proudly displays the name of the woman of the household-not next to the man's, but independent of it.
Ever since Jangamwadi set on the path to become a #SwadesFoundation Dream Village, the villagers along with the Village Development Committee have been thinking of innovative ways to strengthen the community bond and empower its women.
"The nameplate asserts our place in the household. It may seem like only gesture to some, but to see our name on the front door is very empowering"" shares one of the women. "
